Steve Jobs…

Posted by Carlos in Opinions

I learned of Jobs’ death the same way many people did, while using one of his creations.  My family and I were at our local library, our children volunteer there once a week. My wife and I were waiting for them to finish up and were sitting at a corner table playing Air Hockey on my iPad when a notification from CNN popped up.  All I read was “Steve Jobs..” and I closed the lid to my iPad.

Many of us knew that it would be a matter of time before we would receive this news but were hopeful that something else would happen.

Reading the outpour of sympathy and grief coming from all over the world is proof of his impact.  He has changed the world for a better place.  Not just in technology but in many areas (personal computing, cellphone, design are just a few from the top of my head).
I would speculate that Mr. Jobs would not want us to mourn his loss, but celebrate his time with us and continue to strive to make our place better.  As he said during his commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005,  “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”

What better way to honor his memory than following his words, your heart and intuition and becoming the best you can be.
